Faculty Member, Geographical and Environmental Studies

About

Jennifer has a background in human geography specialising in urbanisation and cultural practices of travel. Her research focuses on devalued mobilities as it explores the complex relationships between bodies, spaces, rationalities and practices of travel. Since the mid-1990s, Jennifer has applied the insights of post-structuralist theorists, in particular Michel Foucault, to the problematisation of mobility. Although this research concentrates on her home town of Adelaide - her research offers insights into the objectification and subjectification of the travelling body, the emergence of transport knowledge and the power relations it extends.  Her current research explores the gendering of cycling and cycling across the life-course. Jennifer's work is informed by a concern for equitable and ecologically sustainable cities. Jennifer is currently a member of the editorial board for the International Journal of Mobility Studies - Transfers.
