Professor Ghil'ad Zuckermann is the author of various books such as the revolutionary bestseller "Israelit Safa Yafa" (Israeli, a Beautiful Language) (Am Oved 2008), as well as "Language Contact and Lexical Enrichment in Israeli Hebrew" (Palgrave Macmillan 2003), and Revival Linguistics (Oxford University Press, forthcoming).

Zuckermann is a Full Professor (פרופסור מן המניין, מופקד קתדרה, professore cattedratico ordinario) and Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Fellow in Linguistics at the University of Adelaide, Australia. He lives in Adelaide (עדלאידע), Australia (LUCKY COUNTRY), but travels to Israel (PROMISED LAND), as well as to China (MIDDLE KINGDOM) as "Shanghai Oriental Fellow" and "Project 211" Distinguished Visiting Professor at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).

After studying at the United World College (UWC) of the Adriatic (Collegio del Mondo Unito dell'Adriatico; Duino, Trieste, Italia, 1987-89) and serving in the Israel Defence Forces (1989-93), he was selected for the Adi Lautman Interdisciplinary Programme for Outstanding Students of Tel Aviv University, where he studied philosophy, psychology, classics, literature, law and mathematics, and specialized in linguistics (1993-7), receiving an M.A. (97%, summa cum laude) from the Department of Linguistics in 1997.

As Scatcherd European Scholar of the University of Oxford and Denise Skinner Graduate Scholar of St Hugh's College, Oxford (1997-2000), Zuckermann gained my D.Phil. entitled 'Camouflaged Borrowing: "Folk-Etymological Nativization" in the Service of Puristic Language Engineering', in 2000.

He has published books/articles in English, Israeli ('Ivrit'), Italian, Yiddish, Spanish, German, Russian and Mandarin Chinese, and is currently preparing several further volumes such as (1) Jewish Language Contact, and (2) Language, Religion and Identity.

He has taught various undergraduate and graduate courses at The University of Queensland (Associate Professor, 2006-2010), the University of Cambridge (Faculty of Oriental Studies), National University of Singapore, University of Miami, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (Košice, Slovakia).

He has been research fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation's Study and Conference Center (Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio, Italy), Research Centre for Linguistic Typology (RCLT) (Institute for Advanced Study, La Trobe University), Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center (University of Texas at Austin) and Kokuritu Kokugo Kenkyuuzyo (National Language Research Institute, Tokyo). Prof. Zuckermann has held a range of fellowships and scholarships, including a British Academy Research Grant, "Shanghai Oriental Scholar" Professorial Fellowship, "Project 211" Fellowship, Memorial Foundation of Jewish Culture Postdoctoral Fellowship, Harold Hyam Wingate Scholarship, British Chevening Scholarship and Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Scholarship.

He has been an invited speaker on various TV programmes, e.g. in the United Kingdom: (e.g. BBC) and Israel (e.g. Channel 1, Channel 2, Channel 10, YES, YES DOCO, "London pinat Ben-Yehuda", whose name he invented).

He has also been an invited speaker on various radio programmes in the United Kingdom (e.g. BBC World Service), Israel (e.g. Galey Tzahal, Reshet Bet, Kol Yisrael), Australia (e.g. four ABC Lingua Franca programmes, an ABC Encounter programme with David Rutledge, a panel broadcast by ABC Radio National on 15 April 2010; and various SBS interviews in Israeli, Yiddish, Italian and English, 6PR Perth, 3ZZZ Melbourne), Spain (e.g. Radio Sefarad), Germany, South Africa and New Zealand.

He has featured in numerous newspaper articles in the USA (e.g. The Forward), UK (e.g. Reuters), Canada (e.g. Globe and Mail), the Netherlands (e.g. Trouw), Sweden (Språktidningen), Israel (e.g. Haaretz, Maariv, Yediot Aharonot, Jerusalem Post, English Haaretz, Ynet, NRG, Time Out, Makor Rishon, Erev Erev, HaIr), New Zealand (New Zealand Jewish Chronicle), Germany (Jüdische Zeitung), and Australia (e.g. The Australian, Courier Mail, Australian Jewish News, Rhapsody, E-ton, Galus Australis).

פרופ' גלעד צוקרמן הוא פרופסור מן המניין, מופקד הקתדרה לבלשנות ושפות בסכנה באוניברסיטת אדלייד באוסטרליה, ובעל מענק יוקרתי מטעם מועצת המחקר של ממשלת אוסטרליה. הוא משמש גם כפרופסור מן המניין באוניברסיטת שנחאי ללימודים בינלאומיים.

ב-2006-2010 הוא היה פרופסור באוניברסיטת קווינסלנד באוסטרליה.
